Sonkovo.
- Small town, the
administrative center Sonkovskogo District, Tver Region. Is
a major railway hub. Population - 4000 cheloek (2010).
The settlement originated in 1870 when the station on the
railway line Savelino Bezhetsk-Bologoye. In 1903 the station
was renamed Savelino Sonkovo (named after the nearest
heathland).
Sonkovo population before the Revolution, engaged in
farming and petty trade. The railroad contributed to the
development of trade.
In the early years of the Great Patriotic War junction and
the village were subjected to raids by the Nazi air force.
In a major evacuation center Sonkovo worked. In the early
postwar years the village has been completely restored.
From the village Sonkovo linked fate of Vasily Ivanovich
Andrianov (where he received a secondary education) - the
pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union. In 1950, near the
train station is set to bust.
In 1945 in the village of an obelisk on a mass grave of
Soviet soldiers who died during World War II.
Of the main attractions worth noting Sonkovo old water
tower of XIX century, as well as locomotive-monument of
Al-766-44.
